As mentioned in the Nov/Dec issue of OST Menard's Stores have 3 limited edition models for sale during the Christmas season.
Primed with this information I was on the lookout for them when I recently visited their Rapid City location. Impressed by the quality and
relatively low price ($79.99. each, thru Dec. 4th) I bought two: the Cobbler's Shop and the Eau Claire General Store.

On the whole these are nicely done. The joints of the brick and stone masonry are deep enough to stand out. Ditto for the door and window frames. The colors used are sufficiently muted and avoid a toy like look. Lots of extra items are provided: people, benches, garbage cans, crates, flowers in pots, motor bikes, etc. Two potential negatives here. These are all attached to the buildings and may take some effort to remove or alter. In addition, some items are of the clunky variety and almost demand to be replaced. Window glazing looks to be clear acetate with blinds and signage printed on the backside. The blackness visible at the glazing is from easily removable black paper inserts within the model.

Size wise: the general store is 32' wide x 26.5' deep x 30' tall (@ the cornice), the cobbler's shop is 22' wide x 31.5' deep x 41' tall (@ the cornice). These dimensions do not include projections, such as bay windows, canopies, awnings, etc.

I've posted additional pictures of these buildings in the photo gallery section.

Better grab them from Menards as fast as you can. I received the comparable building from Woodland Scenics for review and it lists for $129. It's still a sweet building and my review will appear in the March issue.

They have them in my local hobby shop for $116. Very nice building the details included with it are worth at least $30 of the price of the building.

I also bought all three for Menards, whom I can't stand but the buildings were being sold for about 75.00 each. I change all references to that "M" word so they look pretty good.

I am a couple states away from the nearest Menard's so I can't check what they actually are selling in store... but I see that their website has buildings listed again for the 2012/2013 holiday season.

The Menards Cycle Shop (Model Number: BR5826, Menards® SKU: 2791958) is currently listed as marked down to $69.99 (List Price: $99.99), but it is only sold in stores (not online).

I saw a few other Woodland Scenics buildings listed the other day, but those are no longer on the Menard's website.

A couple other things might be of interest:

That is a fantastic price! The MSRP of the bike shop is $149 at the Woodland Scenics website.

That may be a fantastic price but you have to actually be within range of the store....

"I am a couple states away from the nearest Menard's...."

Maybe we can rely upon the generosity of strangers to buy a couple of crates and ship them east?

Strangers scarfed them all up to list on eBay....

I just received an email from the big NYC mailorder place - they have the Woodland Scenics branded structures for $104.99. Keep that in mind before bidding on any of the Menards versions.

I just picked up the Post Office building from my dealer in Highland Park, Ill. I think this is by far the best looking Woodland building of all of them. The water tower is a close second, however.....

Kind of a follow up. My local Menards' store has one O scale Taco Bell restaurant building. Not the best detail, but could be improved a bit, if you care to spent $89.00 for it!

They will ship some items to a home address except California.
